Famliy Trip to Puerto Rico

We have traveled to Puerto Rico numerous times, and there is always something new to do and visit. This time we stayed in an apartment complex called Haudimar Beach Apartments in Isabela that we booked on Airbnb. The apartment complex is gated with plenty of parking located on the beach between Shacks and Jobos beaches. You can take a dip in the community pool, relax on the patio, or take a stroll down the beach and collect sea glass. The beach doesn't offer much for swimming since this is the windward side of the island and with a reefy bottom and not much sand, but there are small natural pools to explore and cool off in. Just within a short walking distance is a gas station with a small market and Jobos Food Stop which comprises a variety of local food and drinks.

Most mornings I walked down to Jobo to surf which is about a 10 minute stroll along the beach. Jobos is great beach for surfing, snorkeling, swimmming, or relxing on the beach. There are plenty of places to eat and rent surfboards.

Jobos

We visited many beaches: Jobos, Crash Boat, Monotones, Surfers, Rincon, and Boquerón Beach. Crash Boat being the best beach as always with calm waves, clear water, jumping off the old cement pier, getting close to the brave pelicans, and plenty of local food and drinks. We love the Pinchos De Pollo (chicken on a stick) and pina coladas.

Montones

On this trip we decided to travel south for the first time to Cabo Rojo and make a few stops along the way. The drive from Isabela to Cabo Rojo is about an hour and half on the highway and some crazy roads.

Our first stop was Rincon, then the small town of Mayagüez. The center of town is the Plaza Colón and Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria church.

Mayagüez

As we headed to Cabo Rojo, we made a detour to Boquerón Beach which was amazing with tons of palm trees, calm clear water, with white sand beach.

Boquerón Beach

We finished our journey south reaching Cabo Rojo. The road was washed out from a recent storm, so we had to park on the road and walk about a mile passing the salt flats to the cliffs and old lighthouse. The view from Cabo was amazing and a bit scary since the end of the cliffs are weak and can collapse. Plus, there are no railings or anything to stop you from walking right off the edge. There are even plaques in memorial of others who have perished from getting too close to the edge.

Cabo Rojo

I highly recommend everyone to visit Puerto Rico with its beautiful beaches, great waves, cultural municipalities, rainforest, amazing food, and very friendly and loving people.
